Parking is limited at the Berkeley campus! Whenever possible, we encourage you to use public transportation. When using public transportation it is good to have lots of change. Some services offer exact fare only (e.g. AC Transit Buses and Campus Shuttle Service).

BART Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART): Get off at Downtown Berkeley Station. Trains operate from Fremont, Richmond, Bay Point/Concord and San Francisco/Daly City. A map indicating the route and stops of each train is located at each station. The Downtown Berkeley BART station is just 1-1/2 blocks west of the Berkeley campus. Example: From San Francisco: Board BART and transfer at the 12th Street or MacArthur station to a Richmond train or for direct passage (except on Sundays) - board a Richmond train in San Francisco (refer to BART maps). Get off at the Downtown Berkeley Station. Walk east on Center Street for 1 block to the campus (Center and Oxford St.).

AC Transit: AC Transit bus service provides transportation for commuters to and from San Francisco and throughout Alameda and Western Contra Costa County. There are several AC bus lines that come near the campus area such as lines: #65; #52; #51; #43; #40; #15; #9; F and U. For additional lines and information contact AC Transit at (510) 839-2882. Both the conference site, 220 Stephens Hall, and the film theater, Pacific Film Archive Theater, are on the UC Berkeley campus. The Theater is on 2575 Bancroft Ave. On campus facing Bancroft at Bowditch St. and Stephens Hall is a 2-minute walk from the theater. Both are located on the Southern end of campus, a 2-minute walk from the Hotel Durant.

Walking from west side of campus (Oxford and Center Streets):
There are several maps posted on campus in case you get lost. From the west side of campus, walk toward the Campanile (big clock tower). Once you reach the tower, face south with the tower at your back. You will see an arched breezeway in front of you with brick steps. Walk through the breezeway, down the brick steps, and you will find a heavy bronze gate to your right with the plaque "Doreen B. Townsend Center." Walk through the gate and up onto the terrace. You will see conference activities on the terrace. To get to the PFA theater from there, continue south toward Bancroft Ave. If you walk southbound between the tall building (Barrows) at your right, you will arrive directly at the entrance of the PFA theater. If you lose your way, get to Bancroft Ave. and find 2575 Bancroft Ave.

Walking from south side of campus (Telegraph Ave. area / Hotel Durant):
Walk north on Telegraph Ave. or Bowditch until you hit Bancroft Ave. If on Telegraph, turn right, and if on Bowdith, turn left. You will find a short flight of steps that will lead you to the PFA theater. To reach the conference site at 220 Stephens Hall, continue straight after going up the steps, walk to the right of the very tall building (Barrows), and then follow the path that veers right into the redwood tree area. After about 50 feet, you will see a bronze sculpture of a football player. Cross the brick bridge to the left of the sculpture and up the steps. You will see signs to "trash cinema". Enter the bronze gate with the plaque "Doreen B. Townsend Center." Walk through the gate and up onto the terrace. You will see conference activities on the terrace.

The conference is free and open to the public. For movie tickets, call the
PFA box office at 510-642-5249. For more information and special access needs, please call 510-541-1895 in advance. "Born to Be Bad" is organized by the Graduate Film Working Group (a Townsend Center Working Group and an ASUC-sponsored Student Group). The event was made possible with the generous contributions by the Graduate Assembly, The Townsend Center, the Chancellor's Student Activities Fund, the Film Studies Program, the Consortium for the Arts, and the Italian Studies Dept., and with the cooperation from Steve Seid and the Pacific Film Archive.
